Prof. Dr. Alexander Zipf

Prof. Dr. Alexander Zipf is the head of Geoinformatics (GIScience) at the Institute of Geography of Heidelberg University. He is also scientific head and Managing Director at the Heidelberg Institute for Geoinformation Technology (HeiGIT gGmbH), a non-profit company for applied research and technology transfer at Heidelberg University. Before coming to Heidelberg he led the Chair of Cartography at Bonn University and earlier was Professor for Applied Computer Science and Geoinformatics at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany. He has a background in Mathematics and Geography from Heidelberg University. Among others his main research areas are Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI), Crowdsourcing and Citizen Science as well as Analysis of Geographic Data.
