Prof. Dr. Alexander Siegmund
Prof. Dr. Alexander Siegmund is Professor of Physical Geography at the Heidelberg University of Education and Heidelberg University. He heads the Department of Geography – Research Group for Earth Observation (rgeo) and is holder of the UNESCO Chair on Earth Observation and Geocommunication. He is also the managing director of the Heidelberg Center for Education for Sustainable Development, head of two competence centers and learning-laboratories for digital geomedia (GIS-Station) and ecological space exploration (Geco-Lab) as well as a founding and for many years board member of the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE). He worked as a research and university assistant at the Chair for Physical Geography and Area Studies at the University of Mannheim, where he obtained his doctorate in 1997. After being appointed professor at the Karlsruhe University of Education in 2001, he moved to Heidelberg in 2004.
