Dr. Maximilian Jungmann

Max is the Executive Manager of the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE). He holds a PhD in Political Science from Heidelberg University, an M.A. in Political Science and Sociology from Heidelberg University, and a B.A. in Political Science, Media, Communication and Sociology from Trier University. In his doctoral thesis, he compared the perceptions and adaptation measures of 192 countries to climate change related health risks. He teaches seminars at the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy at Heidelberg University and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He is a trained scenario workshop facilitator and one of the co-founders of Momentum Novum, a social enterprise that seeks to create a new momentum for sustainable development. He has worked as a freelance journalist for many years and is one of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leaders. He also volunteers his time as a member of the Senior Staff of National Model United Nations New York.

 

As the Project Manager of Climate Action Science, Max coordinates the activities and work of the entire project. He organizes meetings with the program members, connects them with fellow researchers in the field, builds relationships with potential funding agencies and partners and monitors the scientific progress of the team in close cooperation with André Butz, Timo Goeschl, and Sanam Vardag. Moreover, as a political scientist, he contributes to the substantive work of the project by investigating the effects of different information sources on greenhouse gas emissions and their visualization on governmental perceptions and decisions.
